With the rate of technological advancement worldwide, most organizations are exploring new ways of documentation or archiving significant resources. This provides many benefits including reducing purchasing costs and encouraging environmental sustainability and information security. Sadly, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning under the Federal Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development in Abuja seem to be lagging behind in utilizing this resource.
Therefore, this project uses QGIS; a geographic information system tool to trace and map in detail, the original Abuja Local Council Development Area map. With this, we aim to present information in a visual way, monitor real-time changes to settlements and speculate futuristic socio-spatial patterns that could inform development in Abuja and its neighbouring states.
